Real Life or Set Up?

I have been going on about inspiration a fair bit recently, however I am on the design vibe at the moment so have found myself taking pictures of things all over the place no matter how relevant or irrelevant I find it is and trying to develop things into my designs themselves.

The prints on the three dresses in particular really caught my eye the other day, especially the one in the centre; I really like the randomness of the shapes and the colours. Considering that my designs are usually all over bright and bold colours I really like the white background on this dress, not sure how well that would work on a scarf though??

This week then, I have found myself wanting to get out and about a bit more to see what is going on. So I am going to head to the Tate Britain to check out 'Rude Britannia' along with the 'Maison Martin Margiela' at the Somerset House, looking at colours, shapes, styles etc... anything that I feel could be an idea to develop.

Last night I watched Shutter Island... I love Leonardo Di Caprio films. Not sure though if it was all real life or set up? A must to watch if you have not already.

Volume Magazine

Volume Magazine is a great place to find new musicians, artists, designer, writers etc, I love it. Ruby the editor added a post about Lucy Jay yesterday on their blog. Have a look at the site the it is very interesting and full of new and exciting things.

All this sunny weather has got me feeling all summer this week and I think it is rubbing off on my designs; I have been really loving the shapes and patterns that these small flowers have make. We have something similar in our front garden, however seems to be on it's last legs at the moment, I have been watering it a fair bit to try and bring it back to life, however had no luck on reviving it, so it does not look at nice as those in the pictures below.

Anyway, I have been taking these shapes and combining them with my colour schemes and existing ideas to create prints that do not look to obviously inspired by flowers and create something quite interesting and unusual.

And finally, I have set up a Facebook fan page for Lucy Jay so if you fancy checking it out and giving me a thumbs up, go for it! I have literally only just done it this morning so it is looking a bit boring but I will bulk it out and make it a bit more interesting over the next few days

Have a good day!

Sarah Patel's (S.P's) Photography Exhibition

Last weekend was a busy one... along with my brothers 21st birthday barbeque (picture below), eating and drinking copieus amounts of food I also went to the Manchester Met Exhibitions.

Sarah Patel who you may or may not remember did my photo shoot for my look book images back in March, so I was eager to go check out her work and it was great. The three main images focussed on the changing room, coachs office of a sports locker room. The misty light shining through the windows gave a very still and quite feeling to the pieces. What i liked about the first piece (on the far left) is the colours that cam though too, the reds and greens.

After working together on my look book we both have a few more projects together up our sleeves, so watch this space. In the meanwhile though check out some more of her work on her website.

Congratulations S.P. and have a great graduation!

Bit Weird?

The picture below was emailed to me by my boyfriend the other day, initially I was thinking, 'bit weird', but when I looked back at it today I could see where he was coming from. The image shows various ways which you can put on a head bandage, now are you thinking... 'bit weird', what is the relevance of this...

... if you look at it close enough the top two portraits are quire interesting with the bow at the front or side and the turban style, quite an interesting way to wear a scarf. I suppose if you were feeling a bit crazy you could put it over your eyes as the middle images show, probably not recommended if you are going to be doing any type of walking though!

The image though could be a starting point for some new look book ideas. So the relationship between bandages and Lucy Jay is not that weird I guess!

HAPPY 21ST BIRTHDAY BRO!

I am Wirral bound this week for my brother 21st, so in between getting plenty of Lucy Jay work done I am going to be doing lots of eating, drinking and well celebrating!

So Lucy Jay this week...

This is where I will be working; as long as the the sun is shining, I have set up camp in my back garden and swapped my tea drinking for plenty of cold orange juice. I have devoted the week to designing... think fluresecent colours and shapes filled with plenty of patterns all with a collage twist.

When I was doing my final collection last year I came across a website call Volksfaden where I got most of my fabric from for my garments and the other day I sort of remembered about it, not that I had totally forgotten, but you know what I mean (!) and instantly fell back in love with the images they use to present their fabrics.

So in relation to my new designs, this is what had lead my to where I am going with my new designs. It is a site to definitely check out for anyone like myself who loves beautiful, bright printed fabrics.

Postcards

Yesterday I came across this postcard, I love the colours, images and text used on it. An interesting idea for a colour scheme and a layout idea of some upcoming scarves.

Antique Shops

As well as my scarves, I am currently working on a project on the side that I am aiming to get sorted by about October... yes I know it is aaaaaaages away however along with everything else I have to do I am doing it slowly but surely!

I do not want to give too much away until then, however what I will say is that I have been inspired by the image below and now am looking for some good antique/thrift shops in the London and Liverpool areas that are not too pricey. So if anyone has a heads up of somewhere that is worth a visit please drop me an email so I can stock up on lots of goodies... thanks for your help!

Also today... DIME CAKE, I am going crazy for it here! By cutting small slices it feels like I am not slowly eating it, when in fact I am in the process of demolishing it all, sooooo good though!

Susie Bubble

The super Susie Bubble has blogged about Lucy Jay Scarves and she looks so great wearing them with my favorite designers, A Romance Was Born's top; Susie has taken a completely different approach to styling my scarves than I would of ever of imagined and I love it. She has worn all of the scarves to create a weaved top through her chain dress... very imaginative! Thanks Susie, the scarves look great on you.

Amy

I have over the past few weeks been working on designs for a few new scarves, however more recently been focussing on the scarf I have called Amy. Initially I had quite a inspiration block, however slowly but surely getting out of that and starting to become happy with what I am creating.

I want to ensure that the design is different from what I have done up until now, however regoniseable of the Lucy Jay brand. I have a few twists and ideas I would like to add but will definitely need to do some experimenting. In the meanwhile I wanted to post a few pictures I have found along the way of my research that I have found inspiring and have helped me out along the way...

And also, this weekend The Monday Issue Blog had published an interview I did with them, have a read and thanks to Vanessa for that!

Me and my boyfriend also agreed to participate in a 53 mile bike ride in July, all for charity. It is from Liverpool to Chester and back, so we are going to have to don the ole lycra and get training! Ah! might need a new bike though, what do you think??

I am being pretty slow starting this morning... in definite need of a large cup of coffee!
